I thought this was interesting. The quality looks amazing. I never really thought about commemoratives until recently. I love a lot of the designs.

So if people are looking for upgrades....

Bruce Scher, the former owner of the set now being sold by Pinnacle, is one of the all-time greats in terms of assembling US commemorative sets. The set referenced here is a complete 144-piece that is #1 all-time in the PCGS Registry. Definitely take the time to have a look at it on the PCGS site if you have even a passing interest in classic US silver commemoratives.

This is not Mr. Scher's first foray into such lofty collections, however. In 2005, his amazing, PCGS Registry #1 50-piece type set was auctioned by Heritage. The catalog for the auction features beautiful color photos of every coin in the set. The quality of the coins was amazing - almost every coin was either an MS-67 or MS-68 (just two MS-66s in the bunch!), the eye appeal of the coins was amazing and the prices realized were truly amazing! If you're into US commemoratives, the auction catalog is a "must have" for your library. This collection is also available for viewing on the PCGS site.

I wonder what Mr. Scher will pursue next!

with commems wise comments.

I have long enjoyed looking at this set at the PCGS site ... an amazing assembly of world-class coins. I suppose there may well be some coins in this set that alone are worth more than my collection put together.

I'll admit that I enjoy my participation in the PCGS Registry set world ... of course limited finances and my personal preference for limited-toning coins will prevent my contributions from ever achieving noteworthy status.

Which is why I enjoy viewing the other fabulous sets that have been put together ... and this was the #1 all-time.
