Is the Washington quarter design gone forever? Do the new quarters (state and national parks) replace the old design from silver quarters and coppernickel up to 1998? Or does the US Mint have plans to return to it one day? Cheers, thanks in advance.

It wont happen, but I would love if the 2022 quarter was the start of taking presidents off of coins.

Probably gone. And I think the obverse of the quarter shows the vast contrast in mint designs over the last decade. Look at a 2012 quarter and the obverse just looks like it had been weakly struck. It's so flat and even lacks detail. The quarters and nickels from 1980 were "ultra high relief" in comparison.

Time for something new. And none of this rotating reverse designs, it is old already.

Yeah, I have a feeling they'll renew the series and go for another round of national parks

If the are going to keep Washington on the quarter, they should at least give him a nicer look. It is really disappointing that the US Mint does nice reverses now, then you look at the old/plain obverse and wonder, why not improve that too? I guess they don't realize a coin has 2 sides?

They should scrap Washington and bring back a "Liberty" design.

I would love to see them go to Laura Frazier's quarter design when all this ever changing nonsense is over. Her design was the one that was supposed to have been used 32 to 98 anyway. She was cheated, and it would be great to see her redeemed. It's a much better design than Flannigan's quarter anyway. I know it won't happen, but it's my opinion.

Quote: Do the new quarters (state and national parks) replace the old design from silver quarters and coppernickel up to 1998? Even the silver and clad quarters did not have the same design, there have been well over a dozen obverse and reverse changes to the Washington quarter since the start of the series in 1932. Of course, one of the worst was the infamous "spaghetti hair" of the 1990s

The quarter is like this... Quote: It's so flat and even lacks detail. because they were trying to undo this... Quote: Of course, one of the worst was the infamous "spaghetti hair" of the 1990s The problem is that the ultra-low relief used today makes what is supposed to be a more original design look flat.

Is it really to much to ask for that we not have the exact same designs on coins and dollars. Some variety something. I love the founding fathers as much as the next guys but these designs have been beaten to death being on both coins and bills. Old coins blow what we have now away. I do like the new reverse series that have been going on to mix it up but some of the state ones look like the designers woke up and forgot they had the design due and just phoned it in

Washington didn't even want his image on money. He thought it seemed to imperial, like he was a king or something. that's why were had liberty on our money.
I also liked Laura Frazier's quarter design. I have the gold commemorative of it. it is nice looking.

Frazier's design will never be used for the quarter- the relief is much too high to be used these days anyway- the mint loves low relief.
The heraldic eagle is gone forever, in 2014 we are supposed to get a crossing the Delaware reverse.
