I would like some grading opinions on this 1853 Arrows Seated half dime. Also, has anyone seen die cracks similar to the ones I have marked? Thank you in advance for your thoughts!

I admit that I am totally clueless on this series but the last two digits look strange to me.

The die cracks you point out are clash marks. The waving line is the ground above the date on the obverse side.
I'm thinking this coin got slabbed as "genuine" because of the scratches and environmental damage in the obverse field.

Good call on the "die cracks" being clashing. I wasn't even thinking of that

Hi FlipofaCoin!!

Here's some pictures of my 1853 Half Dime.

Your coin's date shape seems to match mine and surprisingly, my coin seems to have the same "lines" on the reverse as yours (maybe even a few more!!). I had never noticed but it does appear these "lines" are die clashes!

Pretty cool!!

I would grade your coin as an EF45. Nice!!

I will guess they gave it a EF-40.

What grade did the TPG give your coin?

The coin is not in a TPG slab. I put the coin in a coin holder to protect it during handling.

As much as I would love for this coin to be at least AU50, I think EF45 is more than fair.

I would have sworn this was a new PCGS holder. Where did you find the finger holders?

EF40/45 sounds right, the clashes would keep it down a bit, TPG's don't necesarily downgrade a coin for them but they don't ever upgrade, so EF40 is more likely.

I bought a box of 100 assorted size inserts off of ebay. I thought it was a good idea and offers a little more protection that a plain Mylar 2x2.
