I have 1 dime and 3 pennies, the women said these came from the mint where someone she knows works at. Are these rejects or coins that were in the process of being destroyed, she called them mushrooms but I never heard or seen these before.

Sounds like a good story, but I don't think it's true. Generally a coin referred to a "mushroom" coin is a coin that has been stuck to the die and struck so many times that it begins to split and resembles a mushroom. The coin is then larger than a typical cent. This simply looks like melted copper.
Rest in Peace

Your coins were damaged outside of the mint.

Which mint did she state that they came from ?
I bet they were pretty good errors to begin with then were
beat up even more after that at the mint so as to not be worth anything if out in circulation.

Don't know the mint but I could find out, she had a couple nickels and quarters as well but these ones stood out from the rest. I got these for nothing so I see no reason for her to lie to me as to where they came from, I doubt they are worth much if anything but I thought they would be a nice little conversation piece.

You might want to check into how the mint destroys bad coins.....as pyrbob said...this is not a method they use.

These are damaged. Not errors.
