OK, I've got a good bit of coins here to give out and I'm not sure what the best way is to do it.

Mainly because I'm not sure how many kids we'll see since it's my first big show. I'm not sure how long they will last so I'm not sure how to group them. Singles? Dozens? Handfuls?

Unfortunately I haven't opened most of the packages yet, but I'd bet I have 20-25 pounds of coins. I'm sure most of them won't need to be in flips like wheats and random world coins. I've got mint sets and some nicer stuff to the probably should go in flips or likely already are.

We have what they call "Team Bags" that are used for sports cards that are sealable. Maybe put a little assortment in these and seal them, then put them in a box that they can reach in blind and pick one? We could write a "bonus code" on the outside of the bag to redeem mint sets and certified coins?

Talk to me.....

Case by case basis
two boxes one with loose coins and one with the nicer stuff.
Scouts just looking for the merit badge a coin
We want free stuff a coin
Dad prompting the kid a coin
etc

A kid that asks questions and shows interest gets to pull something from the better box.
Having run give aways before (not coins) you will get people comming back again and again throughout the day
25lbs of coins will not last long if you give them out by the hand full. It does not take much to spot real interest and I suspect they will be the ones we want to cultivate.

I'm bringing another 3-4 pounds of World, Wheats and Buffalos. I would have to agree, not worth it to put in flips but, 4 or 5 in small zip lock bags? You can buy them at any hobby store like Michaels.
I have to admit, not sure how many kids to expect. I know the treasure hunt table at Long Beach is packed with excited, yelling kids...mainly because the guy dresses in a pirate costume, hand hook and eye patch too!
25 pounds will go fairly quick ly by the handfull :o

Put relatively even assortments of coins in little baggies, put them in a big box and let the kid choose; Bobby I think your idea is good one already
make sure the bags are opaque so they dont know what they got until they open them up. Adds excitement and an air of more fairness.

I sell at flea markets, but this might be applicable. I have a box that I charge 50 cents per coin. When kids look at it, I tell them to take a few for free. If that excites them, I let them have more. If, when talking to them, I see a specific area of interest, I see if I have something better to give them.

Dealers are always giving my daughter coins. When they find out she like dog tags, they sometimes start digging to find her some. She also hoards wheat pennies and collects foreign coins that "look neat." She has been going to coin shows since she was a toddler and many dealers have watched her grow and become more knowledgeable.

With out kids joining the hobby, it will die. Good job!

Put lots of flips in a box and let them take out 3 or so blindly. If they get doubles let them switch them out for different ones. This would add an element of surprise.
Rest in Peace

5-10 free per kid; let them pick, so you'll need a little room and a tub or box(es) big enough to prevent crowding. May have to line them up - just like school. They'll get the idea. I can help while I'm not running the aisles and spending my hard-earned $$$. Talk to them about the hobby, the coins, collecting, ephemera, whatever. If their eyes roll back into their head, they're not ready for coin collecting!
