I was at the bank today and the teller told me that she had a whole bok of Ike dollars. I looked through it and found no silver. is there any value to these at all? Will there ever be? I never really see them and have never looked into collecting them.

Feel good about your find. There is a whole thread on here with great pics of Ike dollars in all years. Some that are in good shape can be worth quite a few dollars. I have found some in rolls etc. That were in very good shape, sent off very grading and came out with a dollar investment one worth hundreds. These are few and far between but can be very rewarding for searching and researching as there are some varieties in there also. Look at the Ike thread pics and you should have ahold idea of what you have. I know that if my bank offered me the same chance on some Ike dollars I would do that deal all day long. Good luck in your search.

The are a few Ikes to look for like the 71D Friendly Eagle variety, and the 72 Philly Type 2. 1973 was not intended for circulation. And any proofs (S mint marked) are worth keeping.

I suggest you go back to that bank and see if you could buy the entire amount of them. Although most are not considered rare or excessively valuable, many are sold all the time for more than face value. You've got nothing to loose.

What's not to like about Ike's. I only have a few of them but I recon they are as collectible as the Morgans and Peace dollars. Just because they ain't silver doesn't mean they are not collectible. I imagine that these will be the last of the full size dollar US coins to be made and you blokes can get them at face and build a set with ease. If I had that opportunity I would do it in a heartbeat

Why not? Pick out the ones you want to keep and take the rest back

I have only seen ikes at 2 banks since I started collecting. One time they had 5 coins, and the other bank had about 3000. (or so the teller told me) I couldnt resist taking a bunch. I think I ended up with about $150 worth. If I had the means to take them all, I certainly would have.

Ike's are a bit of a strange market. People want them, but the coins don't carry a big premium. I'd also say buy everything and keep the ones you want. I have no experience trying to sell them.
I usually just spend the ones I don't like. :)

Where are all of the Eisenhower dollars? I'm in a big city, but they are somewhat hard to come by. Any that I come across, I take, no matter what the year or condition. It's only 8 years of being minted, so it's always a good idea to keep what you come across, in my opinion.

Was 1972 the only year that the silver Ike dollar came out?

@collector- 1971-1974 had both uncircluated .400 (blue pack) and Proof .400 (brown box). 1976 3 coin sets had Unc. .400 (red pack) and Proof .400 (blue album type thing). The only years not produced in .400 were 1977 and 1978.
