I have a hard time trying to identify this banknote from China. Any ideas? I also suspect that it is a counterfeit but I am not sure.

I can help with the identification but not the authentication.

"Yunnan New Fu Tien Bank" has nothing to do with this banknote.

It is a "ten dollar" (10 yuan) note issued in 1920 (9th year of the Republic) by the "Bank of Communications" and printed by the American Banknote Company.

An example of this banknote may be seen at this Chinese website.

The reverse side of your note has only the serial numbers and signatures.

What you have is a fantasy note.

The face design is generally that of the $10.00 note from the New Fu-Tien Bank (PS-2998). The four character Chinese bank title at the top, however, is for the Bank of Communications. The signatures on the back are officers of the Bank of Communications. The serial number style is completely wrong for a note printed by American Bank Note Company but is consistent (including the series letters AB) with the serial numbers found on many of the counterfeits and fantasy notes from China that were made in the last few years.

The note in Manymores post is the completely printed fantasy note with the back also.
