Was going through a box of dollar coins and found George here. :-)

The edge doesn't look like a so-called "Buffy" and the weight is well within tolerance (in fact, it weighs more than a number of brand new $1 coins out of their mint rolls I was looking over).

Have to look really close on these circs.
10X should do it. Go over the edge thoroughly.

Hello,

Many counterfeits exist and verification by a TPG is usually recommended.

@Indian1 - Under 10x magnification it doesn't look buffed. The punch lines are dinged, but there, and no sign of polishing marks.

@mdpmedia - Counterfeits are my niche, so either way is a win. ;-) Given its condition though, I'm not going to even bother sending it to a TPG. If it were an uncirculated example, I might've been a bit more pushed in that direction.

I know these don't have reeding, but if my knowledge of the minting process is correct, they should still have ejection marks if not tampered. Just look for fine vertical lines all around the rim.

Weird, I found quite a few Presidential dollars without any edge lettering, but I don't think its an error as much as REALLY weak lettering.But... I hope I'm wrong.

@1967Canadapenny - Aye there are on some of them very weak lettering, and also two different varieties of lettering I've noticed (one thicker, one thinner).

A "true godless dollar" (pardon me as I straighten my kilt...) has to be a President before William Henry Harrison (as that's when they moved "In God We Trust" to the obverse) and have missed the edge letterer entirely.

However they can miss the edge letterer in any year, or have the wrong edge lettering and are still worth a premium. :-)

You may also want to keep an eye out for the 2009 pres. $'s
with the motto on the edge. I think it was just on the P mints.
Not sure if any were from Denver. Then maybe (just a thought)
the 08's with no motto ? And of course your other $'s Sac's with
edge lettering or the wounded eagle type and the SBA. You usually find
them all mixed in bank rolls. Found a nice SBA wide rim/near date just recently.
