I've got a good-condition 1911 Liberty V nickel. I was looking at it and I saw what looks like a die break on the reverse, above the "ER" in America. Can anyone tell me if it really is a die break? I haven't seen any others like this.
Keep in mind the area has a bit of tarnish. Thanks.

With the amount of wear, I'd expect the raised metal from the break to survive only in the relief areas. The part extending onto the rim would most likely wear away. Looks like it may be something that dried onto the coin. Can you post a closeup?

Sorry to take so long.
The picture isn't great, but it's there.

Not something dried on. Is that area raised or lowered?

It looks relatively even, if not slightly lowered.

It almost looks like a defective planchet but I'm not really sure from those pics. It could be PMD as it looks like there is some on the obverse. Could you get a picture of the edge in that area. That might help.

It is most likely a small delamination, quite common on 19th and early 20th century nickel coinage.
