They are fun! My son (he's 12) likes foreign coins so we usually hit the coin dealers. When it is slow, the dealers usually love to talk to kids.
I always make sure to leave the credit cards home and come with only as much cash as I am going to spend. I am not sure about anyone else but I really get too excited when I see something I want and would be very dangerous if I had plastic on me! (Plus, you get better deals in cash).
Have a great time and let us know what you and the grand kids purchased!

I have to live vicariously through others who go to coin shows and shops...so, take pictures and share! :)

Have fun!
You may want to read some old threads about dealers at coin shows. Some people have been offended by what they felt was rude behavior. Some dealers are all business at the shows and if you're not buying they have to move on to the next customer.
I think it's great that you're taking the grand kids. It will be an adventure!

The coin show was awesome, never seen so many great coins in my life! The grand kids absolutely loved it, everyone was very nice...they got to draw for a free coin going in and several vendors gave them one as well. As usual forgot to grab the camera so no pics, didn't find my exact want but got close with a raw coin and will post on the appropriate sub forum.

Glad to hear that you had such a good experience -- and it sounds like the grand kids are collectors now too.

Yeah they're hooked for the moment, soon as they got home they started going through their parents change looking for silver. Grandpa did get them a Mint coin set of their birth year, they thought that was cool.

Hope that their parents don't get mad with them looking through their change... Mine were starting to get annoyed... until I pulled a XF 1967 Canadian silver quarter out of my Tim Horton's change...

It is not that coin dealers are all rude... (Yes some are) and we all like to talk to the kids.... BUT when you drive for hours to be at a show, set up, answer tons of question and only sell enough to cover the table fee.... you get a little annoyed after a while and it gets rough.
I am glad you had a good time and hope you will enjoy meny future shows.
