Hello there.

I'm pretty new at coin collecting and identifying, so please forgive me if I make a mistake. I have a 1951 Wheat penny, and I'm trying to figure out the mint mark. It seems like it was either stamped wrong or damaged. Has anyone seen anything like this?

Thank you for your help! ^.^

Just some sort of post mint damage. MM is really too banged up for me to tell what it was, but definately not a mint error, just damage.

The bottom blob looks like the serif of an "S" to me. Here's a good example: http://www.cointalk.com/t196762/

I agree it all looks like damage to me. It certainly isn't an error.

It's a badly damaged S mint cent. If you're trying to figure it out so you can put it in an album - don't bother. They are common enough that you could have a nice one in that spot instead. Just toss this in the change bucket and forget you found it.
