Hi all, I've looked through numerous catalogs and spent hours trawling the 'net but I can't find any information about this coin. A helpfull person at a recent coin dealer show pointed some kind of spectrometer at it & told me it was 22k gold. As the coin is inside a coin cover envelope, I can't weigh it accurately. I'd like to know a catalog identification number, (Krause does not list it) mintage & an accurate weight please.

If it's not listed in the catalogues, we can't really give you a catalogue number, now, can we? Unfortunately, with no catalogue entry, we can't give reliable answers to your other questions, either. The coins were manufactured by an unknown mint and sold by Westminster Collection, a British-based coin mass-marketing corporation. You could try contacting Westminster for mintage information, but if experience with similar companies in other countries is anything to go by, they don't keep detailed records of that sort of thing; once they sell out of a product, they stop caring about it. According to the Chard Coins website on T&C gold coins, "100 crown" coins have been made to a range of finenesses and weights over the years; in 2002 they were bullion-grade (exactly 1 ounce of .9999 gold). I'm thinking your best source of information might be Internet sales; look up ebay or similar places and see if anyone posts pictures of any certificates etc that originally came with the coins; presumably mintage and specifications can be found there.

Thanks for your reply Sap. You are right of course. Westminster Collection aka Mercury, a pom-golian mass-marketer of private issue PNCs weren't exactly falling over themselves to give up any information, & the (sales?) person I contacted claimed they kept no records of old issues. Doesn't help me catalog my collection.
I've another Westminster PNC issue containing a 2004 Gibraltar gold one pound coin celebrating 60 years since the d-day landings, & I can't find any spec's for that either. Oddly, I did find reference to a five pound coin with the same reverse image on the 'net, but neither coins are listed in my catalog.
You can't help bad luck I suppose. (sigh)

Quote: I've another Westminster PNC issue containing a 2004 Gibraltar gold one pound coin celebrating 60 years since the d-day landings, & I can't find any spec's for that either. The Schön catalog lists that one as #1109, I think; no image though. But it should be pretty much like this one http://images3.numishop.eu/images/m...o_255629.jpg except that the poppy in the gold version is not colored. According to the catalog it is Au 916.6, weight 7.98 g, Ø 22.05 mm, mintage 1,950 max, made by the Tower Mint Ltd. London. Christian

Thanks Christian - you're a legend! It poses another question though: Is there a cross reference list of Krause numbers vs Schön numbers?

The Schön catalog, which is in German, basically has the KM numbers too, in ( ). Problem with those places which issue lots and lots of coins every year (and Gibraltar is one of them) is that the catalog authors have a hard time keeping track of all the pieces. Will check the catalog tonight and see if it has a Krause # for that one ...

Numismaster have Osbourne Mint for the 5 crowns and no mint listed for the silver 20 crowns. Google only throws up Osborne Mint, who appear not to work with precious metals.

Sorry, the current (2012) edition of the Schön catalog, which lists the Gibraltar piece as #1109, does not have a KM number. May be added later ... And the one depicted in your first post (Turks+Caicos) is not listed in the Schön. It has the 5 Crowns Cu-Ni piece only (S#259) and for that one it has a KM reference (#233) too, plus the info that this Cu-Ni issue was minted by the "Osborne Coinage Company, Cincinnati" (see alganbagerap's reply).
