This is one of the coolest medals and I'm trying very hard to buy it from the family. The Grover E. Bell Award is given for an outstanding research and experimentation contribution to the field of helicopter development brought to fruition during the preceding calendar year. The Grover E. Bell Award was created by Larry Bell, founder of Bell Aircraft (now Bell Helicopter Textron) in 1957, in honor of his pioneering older brother, Grover E. Bell, who was killed in an aircraft crash in 1913. Eligible contributions include sub-systems as well as systems. To date, only 50 medals have been issued. I've blacked out the name and the date of the medal for respect for the family. The medal was first offered in 1957 and only ONE medal is awarded each year. There were 5 years that no medal was offered. Very rare and valuable. The medal has 220.2 grams of 10K gold. That's well over 4000 dollars in gold. Three inches in diameter. Feel free to add some information if you have it. Thanks and enjoy.

Wonderful medal but I wanted to ask why you blocked the date and recipient? Is the medal still given out considering the cost of producing one now? I reside in the same town as Bell so this is quite interesting to me. Thanks for sharing.

Super medal!! If I where in your shoes I would try and give one of my cards to the owners so that they can keep it with the medal. On the card state that you will always pay more than the melt value when the medal is for sale and remind them that gold buyers never pay more than 80% of melt. Good luck, hope you end up with the medal.
