Does anyone know about pricing, if it is offered in both proof and uncirrc, etc? I'm talking about the one with both Marshall and USMC commems. Mint website says that the Marshall will be offered in combo with marine corps commem, but I couldn't find details. Thanks! Don

That would be a first? Maybe Marshall isn't selling well and the Mint anticipates the Marine Corp will probably sell out very quickly and they are looking for coat tails for Marshall to ride on? I have never heard of the Mint making this kind of offer as it would be like putting apples and oranges in the same crate? Greed does strange things.

I have not heard this one. The Marine coins are being struck as we speak. The Mint article is in the coins in the news section.

Maybe it is this statement from the Mint that is confusing.
The United States Congress authorizes two official commemorative coins annually, and only the United States Mint may produce them. The Marine Corps 230th Anniversary Silver Dollar is the second and final commemorative coin that the United States Mint will produce in 2005. The Chief Justice John Marshall Commemorative Silver Dollar was launched earlier this year.
They are NOT being offered together.

I will have to agree with ND as that move would have been highly unusual. But I also must say nothing the Mint does would surprise me? I did receive a flyer from the Mint today on the Marshall Commemorative, which I have already purchased, and there was no mention of the Marine commemorative with it.

My question is based on this info: In addition to the single coin options in both proof and uncirculated condition, the Chief Justice John Marshall Silver Dollar will also be available as part of two limited-edition collectible sets. First, a Coin & Chronicles Set will feature a Bureau of Engraving and Printing intaglio print and an informative booklet. The coin will also appear in a special set with the Marine Corps 230th Anniversary Silver Dollar later this year. from here: http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...ey=ClickInfoBut I couldn't find anything else about it. Hi Folks, absolutely no disrespect what so ever intended towards the Marine Corps, but why would there be a 230th year Marine Corps commemorative coin? It seems an odd number of years for an anniversary celebration. 25th, 50th, 75th, 100th, 150th (I always thought the sesquicentennial was odd) 200th, 250th etc etc, but isn't 230th just "looking" for something to commemorate? I stand corrected. Thanks for the link.
As to why a 230th anniversary? There is hope of a new memorial for the Marines. So everyone figures that "we" will pay for it.

Of course you are right Mike, but then again they must figure they have already built enough memorials, and tied up enough ribbons, and held enouth fund raisers, so what is left to do in priving our care and concern for our fighting men and women in the Marines. Just thinking they will be minting a Marine comm. makes me feel warm and fuzzie all over. don't it do any thing for you?

OldDan, I defer to the first line of my post....Why not a "Commemorative Support Coin" for our active forces in Iraq? Perhaps with some of the profits distributed to families of lost or injured soldiers? That would give me an even warmer feeling! I say let's celebrate the USMC'S 250th! Mike
