With pennies no longer minted and the mint eventually pulling them out of circulation, I decided to update my penny album before prices became to rediculous. I went to the bank and picked up a box of pennies. It has been months since I've done any roll hunting. All the rolls seem to be customer wrapped ( and not neatly so hopefully it isn't a dump box ). My goal is to just get better examples of the ones I already have and hopefully add some luster to my rather dull ones. Wish me luck! --edit-- About half way through the box today, I opened a roll to find it completely full of wheaties! best part is...EVERY SINGLE ONE WAS S MINT MARK! here are some pics and the stats of what I found 1x 1954s 5x 1953s 2x 1952s 3x 1951s 2x 1950s 1x 1949s 4x 1948s 5x 1947s 1x 1946s 3x 1945s 10x 1944s 4x 1942s 1x 1941s 3x 1940s 1x 1939s 1x 1930s p.s. is there any varieties I should look for in the wheats? wish you luck!
I've found 1920-2012 in rolls (not 1922, 1923, 1925 and a few different (more scarce) varieties)
with enough patience and time, you'll have no problem!
be aware: nothing worse than seeing a Lincoln, Trinidad and Tobago and pence!
in 25$ worth of pennies I found 17 wheat pennies and 4 indian heads, TONS of 2012 in a few rolls!

If you're hunting maybe you should put together a few date collections... I am sure someone on this forum might bite if you are selling reasonably (or trade for them if you prefer)
There is nothing so interesting in my change (UK) but I have started fishing though it and keeping a few of each because even though not worth much it is easy for me to do and hard for someone across the pond, so maybe I will be doing someone a favour one day :P

I have been trying to pick up a box ever month, I have 4 boxes to go through I have just been keeping every thing right now just sorting out copper, magnetic and non-magnetic. I do plan on spending more time going through everything and dumping the most beat-up coins. I am hoping that the value of pennies will go up in the future.

Jake: agreed. American coinage is the main reason I stopped roll hunting. At shops I can refuse them even when they tell me they're "good". But I say they should stay in the realm in which they are meant to circulate, not to dilute our money supply.

Quote: Jake: agreed. American coinage is the main reason I stopped roll hunting. That's funny! We always said "no Canadian coins" but I got a Canadian quarter in change this week and thought the exchange rate was probably close to 1:1 so no worries. A lot different than the 80s when I could come up there and get $1.40 Cdn for $1 U.S. Nothing better than landing in Canada, dropping a U.S. $20 on the bar, getting a beer, $20 Canadian, and plenty for a tip for the bartender! Miss those days!

That's incredible! Stopping roll searching because of Lincoln cents?!
Me, I get excited when I see one, especially a wheatie!

Nice find. Look out for, 1909 s or vbd, 1914d,1922, 1931s, 1943 copper, 1955 double die.
I have over 1000 wheats and hundreds of indian heads. I think they are neat.
