Being from Sarnia, I was able to attend the 'grand reveal' of the new Coast Guard coin. The lead up suggested a really great show, however, the festivities were done within 15 minutes. The worst part - they didn't even have any of the real thing on hand - only the mock-up that was veiled in black until the Capt. of CCGS Griffon unveiled it.

I saw the real one today: it comes with a small glass (a piece metal in it) and wood box,
but I forgot how the coin look like.

I guess now that it's been unveiled, and this picture is published in our local newspaper, the image police from the mint won't have any concerns: Funny...it looks like the 'Griffon' behind the coin, but no presentation was made publicly at the time of the unveiling - of the actual coin. Saw this coin today at a CP office. The have this little plastic bag in the tube for whatever reason. The coin itself looks rather nice but not at almost $130, it's too expensive

Is there any necessary to issue this one? if they need topics, they should consider firefighters, soldiers in Afghanistan instead of coast guard.

How are these coins doing now? I bought one long ago and was wondering if they've held their value

CA presently has one listed for $84, original issue price $130. Seems to be holding its own as good as can be expected. Sold listings on ebay, a good 2nd reference. Did yours come with a piece of steel? How unusual....."Accompanying each coin is a piece of steel from the pre-refit bow of CCGS Louis S. St-Laurent..." http://www.colonialacres.com/produc...530&ref=1112

Thanks for the post, Yes, the coin came with a plastic container with a piece of steel in it and both were in a wooden box. To my memory, it doesn't mention much if anything about the steel piece or what it is. I'd have to double check since its been awhile seen read the COA.
