hey guys, I offered $750 to buy a guy's 250lb collection of wheat pennies and he accepted. Is this a good deal? and should I jump in on it? Please let me know, thanks.

Sounds decent to me. 1 LB is about 150 or so pennies, so you're paying about 2 cents a piece.

Does that include shipping or is this a local deal? Yeah, generally 2 cents a wheatie is a great deal. Most dealers sell for 3-5 cents a piece.

I'm hoping you have the opportunity for some rare ones in that big stash too!

All depends on the shipping arrangement.

I would pay 2 cents each all day long. Would keep me busy for quite some time, too!

if you made an offer and he accepted then you should follow through with the deal whether it's a good deal or not. That does sound like a good deal though.

Seems like most people agree this is a good deal. If every penny was from the 40's and 50's does everyone think this is still a good deal? To me these are still commons ... just curious if there is a market for them.

I would pay 2 cents each in a heartbeat. And I would have fun searching through them. There is a good chance that there are at least a few worth far more than 2 cents each. But even if every coin was from the 40's and 50's, it is still a great deal. The coin club that I belong to pays 3 1/2 cents each for wheat pennies in our penny pot.

Melt value is 2.3 cents for a copper penny. So, yes, I still think it's a deal if 40's and 50's.

Id say it really doesn't matter since youre basically buying them for the copper. Any extra finds in the lot would just be icing on the cake

Even if searched, the previous owner may not know of things like Doubled Dies, RPM's, offsets, etc. So for 2 cents each and a chance of finding a good one, worth the time and money.

At first I missed the "each". Was going to ask for the address of your dealer so I could buy 100,000,000 for $500,000.

I agree that basically they are worth just the copper, but you can buy pre-82 Linc Memorial cents for even less on ebay, including shipping. If you're just buying for the copper the LMCs are a better deal.
