Can Someone Help Identify 2 Chinese Notes ?

I believe the SECOND note is a five dollar (yuan) local bank note from tianjin China, the obverse side with a date of printed August, year 34. (Not modern date, so it need to date back to the Guangxu dynasty) That said, I am not even sure if that is really a bank note or an advertising piece.

The reverse side can be describe as to what is a bank and why people rather wealthy or poor should save money in a bank, detailing small amount of money save over time can amount to large sum. There are also examples why one should save money in bank like if you have a argument with your spouse, your money is still safe in the bank for you to withdrawal. (LOL!)

I do not have any of the Krause books so this description is not really helpful to me.

This is a 10 yuan note issued in 1919 by the Hulunbeier (Hulunpeierh) Official Currency Bureau. Hulun Buir is a city in Inner Mongolia.

A similar note was auctioned by China Guardian in 2010 for US$1092.




The second note is a 5 yuan note issued in 1908 by the Xin Yi (Shun Yee) Savings Bank.

A similar note was auctioned by China Guardian in 2006 for about US$5200. This particular note came from the collection of Ma Dingxiang who was one of the most famous Chinese coin collectors of the twentieth century.

However, according to a Chinese reference book I have, this note was only issued to circulate in Shanghai which the auctioned note states on its obverse side.

Your note states that it circulates in Tianjin.

I was not able to find any reference that mentions a version that circulated in Tianjin. Also, your note lacks the two additional red seals in the lower corners.

For this reason, I feel your note is almost certainly a fake.

I do not collect Chinese banknotes and am in no way an expert but I would be highly suspicious of your first banknote as well.

I would be careful with these notes. A few years ago I bought a large collection of world banknotes. While most of them were real 50% of the older Chinese banknotes were modern replicas.

Since the collector market in Chinese coins and banknotes has been very hot lately there have been lots of fakes, replicas.

When it comes to Chinese notes of any value I would not buy it unless it was authenticated or graded by a TPG.

The 2nd note is a 5 yuan note, issued in Guangxu year 34 = 1908 by the Xinyi Saving Bank in Tianjin.
It is not a rare note...
Whether the 1st note is genuine or not cannot be decided by the scan, you must have the note in your hands.
