I did a bit of research over the last couple days and the
original seller (gr8-coins) of this fake makes quite a bit out of selling
replica/copy coins.
Here are some stats that could make buying rare or scarce coins off
ebay a real trap for the unwary:
What....................#Sold...$Realised
1915 Shilling ........3 $36.00
1916 Mule Halfpenny.....5 $60.00
1922/21 O'date 3d.......1 $12.00
1923 Halfpenny ........14 $170.00
1925 Penny ........19 $183.00
1930 Penny ........115 $1,356.00
1934/35 Melb Cent 2s....4 $42.00
1937 'Trick' Penny......26 $258.82
1938 Crown ........2 $24.00
1946 Penny ........12 $121.00
1954 'Trick' Penny......30 $307.09
Totals ................231 $2,569.91
All up, there were 149 different buyers, but these stats are
from just one seller, so the potential for many of these to be re-sold as genuine coins is certainly out there.
Buyers beware! I also have a list of all of the buyers, so if I ever notice any of these listed coins are for sale and then find the seller in this list of buyers, I'll alert everyone.
If anyone else want a copy of my document, just PM me your email address and I'll send it to you. I have it as an Excel Spreadsheet, but I can convert it to a Word Doc, so just name your preference.
If you happen to know of any other sellers of lots of fake/copy/replica coins, please let me know and I'll extract similar data for them as well.
The more eyes watching the better.

It is my intention to follow up and see if
any of the buyers have
already onsold their purchases, but that will be very time consuming. Some of them purchased multiple copies, so those are the ones I'll research first.
