I got a "free" gift from my dealer today ... the dude rocks!!

He merely tossed it in with my latest two purchases ... the note on the coin-holder read:

Small gift
Abdera Tetrolbol - Griffin / Hermes
Weight is good but could be a Fouree?

NOTE => I took a few photos of it, but they are among my worst photos, ever!! (I may try again, afterwards) ...

So then I went onto Wildwinds and found this example which seems closest to my freebie:
Free-Gift-From-My-Dealer-...-Is-It-A-Fouree?

Thrace, Abdera. Circa 386/5-375 BC. AR Tetrobol (2.87 gm). Griffin springing left /
Hermes standing right, astragalos to right

a) do you think I found a possible match?

b) do you think that my new gift may be a fouree?

Thanks

It doesn't have the look of a fouree. It's great when a dealer realizes he/she have a great customer and throws in a little gift to show their appreciation. To a dealer, this coin may not be worth much, but to us collectors, each coin has an intrinsic value.

It looks like a match to me. Congrats.

Thanks Bing ... oh, and yes you're correct ... the fact that my guy tossed-in this coin makes me feel "special" (that is a very wise gesture, for he knows that he'll likely get 10xtimes his money back due to this kind gesture, right?)

=> everybody wins!!

That's a nice gift. It's great when sellers do that once in awhile. I've gotten two bonus coins so far during my short time in collecting ancients.

The coin looks porous but not fourree. I suspect yours weighs less than the 2.8g of the match coin due to the porosity. It does look a bit too good for a bonus unless you were buying a lot. I can not help wondering if the dealer had the coin returned by an unhappy customer who said it was fourree and did not want to risk reputation by selling again?

Oh my God => wow, in case you haven't been following my posts during the past 6 months => I spend money like I'm a drunken banker, that's stuffed so full o' cash that I'm prairie-doggin' (aka => more than ready to poop my pants) ... meanwhile, it's like there is another dude squeeezing my stomach and blowing cheese-dog fumes at me!!

=> in other words => "I light smokes with $50 bills"

=> I am the anti-jwharper!! (Superman and Lex Luther)

Oh, you are soooooo correct, Gil-galad => and I would never change my strategy ... I try my best to aim at coins that I love, rather than just coins that I'll settle-for ... eye-appeal is everything!!

Oh, and I'm obviously over-exaggerating => even I like to hunt-out a good deal (man, I guess that JWH has been very sobering influence on me)

... oh, and dougsmit => don't be dissing my dealer!!

Lex Luther? C'mon man, you can do better then that. Lex Luther? Maybe Thor and Loki, but not Lex Luther.

Wow, Bing ... I'm amazed that you chose "me" to be Superman and that you demoted yourself to being Lex Luther ... huh?

Man, I was expecting you to say something more like this:

"Superman? ... Huh, you're more like Wonder Woman!!"
