Which country is it from? What does the text say? What does the medal/medallion represent?

I believe this is a souvenir medal from Japan.

And if my translation is correct, it reads Meji Heaven or Goddess Temple.

It is a souvenir of the Meiji Shrine (Meiji Jingu 明治神宫) in Japan.
