Hi,

I was just wondering about whether anyone has any advice on selling coins. I know that ebay has high fees. However, I've tried Kijiji before. I was wondering about how you guys normally accept payment from someone you're meeting that saw your Kijiji post...especially for pricier coins. Do you guys take certified cheques or another form of payment? Are you guys concerned about getting counterfeit bills as payment for your coins?

When you have enough post you can sell through the CCF auction section, or CCF does consignment selling.

Selling through Kijiji works. Nobody wants to reveal where they live though, so I usually meet in busy parking lots. And CASH always works for me.

I don't sell a lot of coins, pretty much just stuff I get bored of or think it is time to sell high, but I pretty much only use ebay when I do. There is something scary about meet-ups. My experience with selling unused household items through Kijiji is that people will always wait till the last second and lower their offer on the item. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, depends on my urgency to get the old crud out of my house.

So, if you go with Kijiji, prepare for people to try and bargain with you at the last second. I can't say this is how it goes with coins, but bargaining and Kjijji are like peas and carrots.

Hi there:

My answer is that your comfort level will determine your choices. Kijiji works very well but it's limited to local buyers. It's a great way to start. And yes, you must realize that on kijiji everyone is expecting to be allowed to dicker a little bit.

Meeting people at a neutral site (and maybe take along a friend or trusted person if the value of the item is high) is a good solution. Cash is my preference. It's not that hard to learn what a counterfeit note looks and feels like.
Here's two websites to learn from:
1) http://www.ehow.com/how_7795673_rec...n-money.html
2) http://www.bankofcanada.ca/banknotes/

Money orders and bank drafts are also very secure.

ebay takes approx. 10% of your money (depending on the format of your auction) and paypal another 3% so that's a big chunk. The benefit is that ebay is a "worldwide market" so there's lots more potential customers - especially for a pricier item.

I hope this helps

Good luck!

Meeting at banks is what I do when I sell via kijiji and deal in cash.

1. Meet at bank where there's lot of cameras
2. Have buyer check over coins for sale
3. Get paid and deposit right away at the teller
4. If the bank takes the cash and all is well, give the buyer the coins and part with the buyer knowing you don't have wads of cash in your pocket and you knowing that the cash is good.
