Well, I got this very surprising find at the bank. I received this pair of $100 notes. They are from 1934, so they're no motto of course. But they are in almost new condition and are sequential. Furthermore, the printing is somewhat off center, which means that there is a crop mark(?) visible along the bottom of the one note. So, now the reason for this posting. Any idea of the value of these due to the condition, sequential nature, and visible crop mark?

to CCF. I don't think they are off enough to have a premium but I am no pro. Look here http://www.uscurrencyauctions.com/$100notes.htm
You should put them carefully in plastic sleeves.Nice find.

They are not off center enough to be considered unusual.

They are, however, old and in good shape. That will bring a premium. Also a pair with consecutive numbers is likely to be worth a tad more than non-sequential notes.

Thanks for the quick replies. I had figured that they weren't offset enough to be worth a mint, but this was the first time I've seen one with a visible trim mark and figured I'd ask the experts. :) I was looking at some error note online, and I must say that the more extreme alignment errors bring good money, but this one obviously isn't as misaligned as those. Thanks again for the replies and welcome.

The misalignment of a note hurts the grade and makes a note less valuable unless it is misaligned enough that some of the print is missing from the note. At that point it is called an error and that misalignment no longer hurts the grade. How many times have I seen someone on ebay selling a note and trying to use the off center print as a selling feature when in reality it makes the note less valuable.

Noted, Nickelman. If it wasn't for the crop/trim mark being left on, I wouldn't have even thought there was an outside chance of it being worth more than a regular 1934 note in excellent condition. I got the verification that I expected would be the case. That they're in very nice shape, but not offset enough to be really valuable. That being the case, they'll be going into my collection of 'no motto' notes and silver certificates.

Cheers!

Buddy,
How much is a tad in this case ?

1%, 3%, 5%, 10% ?

I've not seen English or Scottish notes this much off center, so I'm surprised that these don't command more of a premium.

That US Currencies site is interesting to look at, but I think their prices are way under valued. I've seen dealers sell tons of fairly current CU notes, slightly above face value and that site doesn't list anything fairly recent as being above face value. Especially if the design has changed.

I think those notes are worth well above face value. Definitely keepers. Sorry, but I don't have a book in front of me now, to get an approximate value.

And those notes aren't really off center. I agree with Nickelman on what he said about missing the design, to be called off center.

And they are awesome notes, for sure!

The series looks to be 1934 C?

I was really shocked to see how cheaply they are selling on ebay. I don't think many people collect them, since $100 is a lot to put away and it scares people away from collecting them. Hence why their values are so low.

That is correct, they are series C.

Out of curiosity... Is the crop mark not uncommon for notes of this vintage, or am I wrong in assuming that it's a crop mark? Common or uncommon, they're keepers that I'm still surprised that someone would deposit these at the bank and then get to me in this condition.

Thanks again, everyone! :)

Wquinn, anyone can see the series to be 1934C...That being said.

You have a lot of opinions on various notes posted here on CCF. I see that you have been collecting since 1975 based on your signatory...yet I have not seen you post a single note...pardon me if you have done so and would like to see a link or 2 if you have done so...

WHAT is that you have in your collection from a currency stand point? Thanks

e pluribus unum, you need to talk to a dealer who MAY pay premium for these....as NOT many collect 100's ...good luck
