I've been thinking about picking up the 1999 to 2008 silver proof sets. I've seen some that come in a storage box and have a few questions about that. Was this issued by the mint as some sort of jumbo set, or did they just sell the storage box separately? I've seen two types of boxes, one with an eagle and one with the face of the statue of liberty. Are these both official mint issue, or is one privately made? Are the proof sets worth any more when together in this set, or is it just an easier way to store them? And lastly, what's a typical fair price? I've seen them go anywhere from $500 to $800. Like the box, but I don't want to overpay for the set because of it.

Most of the ones I have are the statue of liberty on a cardboard box with the slabs inside from the mint. A large storage box may have been offered by the mint but its not standard with the sets. Itd be easier to buy at once but usually it seems like its cheaper to get things one by one as you pay a premium for saving time and having it all assembled for you

So this super set isn't a special mint thing. Looks like all the sets but 1999 are pretty reasonable.

Just be very careful! A lot of scammers take out the silver coins and insert clads....especially with the 1999.

Are you talking about a box for just the silver quarter sets or a box that is designed to hold all ten full silver proof sets? Do all ten years fit in the box? I ask this because they are probably after market boxes. Back in 1999 when the State Quarter sets first came out the Mint DID offer a box to hold the full ten years of sets, and they sold a bunch of them. But at that time the five quarter silver set was not being sold separately. So it would be a box for the CLAD five coin proof sets, or the full clad or silver proof sets. Then after selling all those boxes the first year they stopped offering it. Which was just as well because once the President dollars were added to the proof sets in 2007 the full ten years of proof sets would no longer fit in the box.

In addition to being careful about the 1999 set, which is the "key" of this series, you should get the 2009 too, which has the DC and territory quarters and the bicentennial cents.
