I finally got tired of waiting, and bought one of these sets, for the sake of completeness of my Loon dollar collection.

http://www.mint.ca/store/coin/montr...t-prod700019

I paid well below the issue price, and I was appalled at the poor quality of the coins used for this set. They literally used Winnipeg strikes for the lacquered coins, painted coin and gold-plated coin, MS-62 to MS-63 at best. Yet, the stupid little gold-plated badges (which I now have to try and sell) made by the mint for this set, were of superb quality...

Quite sad actually, that the mint charged almost $150 for this set, yet used crappy business strike coins for the secondary effects.

/end rant

@SPP: I feel your pain. The quality of the coins is atrocious. A complete waste of a spectacular presentation and extras.

I miss the days the mint offered top quality examples of their uncirculated coins. But, at least they should get the GP/colourized stuff right, and when they charge a premium (e.g. general uncirculated set).

Did you find the GP Navy or Roughrider's 100 any better?

Both the Navy and Riders gold-plated loon were only marginally better, my Navy dollar is nice MS-64 and my Rider dollar is high MS-63 or low MS-64. Maybe I got luckier than my Canadiens coins... but still, I was expecting at least the coloured and gold-plated coins to be of PL quality, much like the puck loon dollars and painted NHL dollars were.

An intervention is needed. Ottawa is doing first rate work. But, Winnipeg needs to step things up a LOT.

Those 5 for $5 packs of new loonies are understandable if they are grabbed off the production line (although, I would hope they were the initial production from the dies, and not allowed to simply fall in a hopper to avoid bag marks). But, everything sold for a premium needs to receive premium handling.

what? I figured the Habs fans would be all over this... if this is a Maple Laugh set, it would be SOLD Out.

True but we'll have to wait 5 more years for their 100th anniversary set.

Can't wait for a 2017 Leafs logo circulation dollar coin. At least they'll be easy to find in every urinal from coast to coast.

Rest in Peace

I don't see it as "on sale". The 'sets' above or below it clearly indicate 20% or 25% off but this set remains at $112.49.

Original issue was $149.95 so 25% off is $112.49.

Not sure why CP isn't highlighting the discount on this one though maybe it was reduced previously and I just didn't notice.

Recently sold on ebay for 106 plus 17 shipping. Here is a link to the orginal mint info http://www.mint.ca/store/coin/montr...t-prod700019
