These aren't mine but I am contemplating buying one as an upgrade for my current Anastasius, but only because to me they both look like they might clean up nicely. What I am asking is, which of the two do you think has better details and will clean up better and result in a better-looking coin? Or will neither improve with cleaning? I am leaning towards one of them but will say which after some of you have commented.

Since you don't have either in hand, it is hard to tell for sure. The reverse of coin one looks like it might clean up better than coin 2. But just the opposite for the obverse. I think coin two has a better chance cleaning nicely on the obverse, but it looks like it might be hard and slow going with that encrustation. Are they the same price? If so, I suppose I would try coin 2. Good luck.

The bottom one wouldnt clean up well - The stuff stuck on the bust is really tough and wont come up without risking damage to the coin itself.

The top one will clean up nicely, how much of the bust is preserved isn't clear though.

I'd go for the second coin.
The first one has little detail left, and nothing really to clean off.
The second still has depth of detail.
A simple soak in citric acid (lemon/orange juice) will get that stuff off in a day or two.
As it really is uncleaned. do not ask too much for it, single digit number only ;)

Yes, they are around the same price ($19 shipped for the first, and $16.50 shipped for the second - overpriced?)

Id say massively overpriced...but I'm no expert. All id say is that for that kind of money, id expect something that you can DEFINITELY be cleaned up or is already cleaned to a good standard.

I'd really suggest going over $20 and getting one with more face but there are some in the vCoin $20 search that look a little better as a choice.

I agree #2 should clean up well, I also think $16.50 is a fair price.
