The only Carausius I can think of that is similar is the following:  Carausius 'EXPECTA' reverse.Its by no means the same but does have an alter between the two figures similar to the device on your coin. |

Any chance this could be a barbaric imitation? The lettering does not look like a "true" Roman to me.

I agree with DV. I moved this topic to the 'Ancient, Greek, and Roman Coins' since is seems to be identified as such. Now our more resident experts will have a better chance of seeing it.  |

Rare Carausius coins are also quite common - if that makes sense! I'd say the above was official but I've been unable to reconcile this by finding other similar known examples. Edited by bobbyhelmet

I have exhausted all my resources trying to find this coin, but have come up short. I am inclined to say this is not barbarous though. As Masis said, go to http://www.forumancientcoins.com/board/index.php And ask for assistance under the "Identification Help" discussion board. And please, if you get an answer, come back here and post it or I and some others will go nuts trying to figure this one out. Regards, |
