So if I were to burry mine, there are some considerations Id think about first. I'll just do a list. - A place where there may not be a wild fire -A place that there would not be any development. Id hate to find a Walmart on top of my silver. -My place I think I would live at forever. -Where there is a marker. -On a summit I might someday have my goal of 1,000 oz, which at that level, should be well hidden. Underground. I was thinking of the stash in a box, in a box, in a hole with gravel at the bottom. Opinions? Ideas? -Reno

"A place where there may not be a wild fire" I was reading a story yesterday, written by an explorer on the west coast of Van Diemen's Land, describing an expedition in 1827: "... We then loaded our knapsacks with supplies and ammunition, and accompanied by three kangaroo dogs, started on our march through this unexplored part of the island. As a precautionary measure, we buried 32 pounds of flour in two strong bags and made a large fire over the spot, so that the natives might not perceive that the ground had been dug."
And, the remains of the fire would be your "marker" for years to come.

I was about to say national parkland or some nearby campground but maybe your area is more susceptible to fires than here on the Oregon Coast. Perhaps an industrial park. Plenty of scrap metal about that would throw off any metal detector. If you live anywhere near a cave system that would be another possibility. But the obvious choice would be somewhere on your land or that of your family's. I also hear PVC pipe makes a good container.

I would never burry PMs on any land I didn't own.

I am not sure I would ever bury PMs on land that I owned either.

Do you mean bury? If so, only on property you own.

Obviously he just misspelled the word, we all see it no real reason to bring that up. As for where would I bury my treasure? Ditto on what "oldGold" said "I would never burry PMs on any land I didn't own."
There is absolutely no way I would bury something on land I didn't own.

The closest I would come to burying would be an underground Safe.

I'm a bit amused by the topic, but...do homes in Nevada have basements? Either way, safe, straight down and top off with concrete, if you'd like. Accessible location. Sufficiently hidden. Easier to protect. Away from those pesky guys with metal detectors. A bit less obvious than digging in your yard at midnight. And certainly no need for including those expensive MS-70 ASEs in your stack. Good luck on your road to 1000 oz.

Quote: Do you mean bury? Did you think he was going to place all his PM's in the rough outer casings of certain plants and fruits? what are you trying to avoid by burying it? Thieves? Fire? Government? Take out a piece of sheetrock and bury it in your wall if you're worried about it being stolen. There are countless places you can hide PM's in your own house. Build a desk with a fake leg... If I ever buried PM's even if in my own backyard, I'd be more worried about it out there than it being lost, stolen, confiscasted in my own house.

Quote: I would never burry PMs on any land I didn't own. Nope, me neither. But then... if something can be taxed, do we really ever own it? Probably not, for if we stop paying that tribute tax unpleasant things WILL happen. Years ago, my wife and I bought a house with an unfinished basement. It was the only way we could get the square footage we wanted at the price we could afford. I spent 4 years working on it, part time, before it was all finished. Although I was not stacking in those days... no extra money... there were a couple of places that would have been really good. One was in a floor safe installed under the bar that I built. By removing two shelves that were solidly screwed to the frame of the bar, access would have been possible. The other was inside the frame that I built for our Jacuzzi tub. The front panel was screwed on but in a tricky way that made the screws very difficult to see. Had to do that so I could get at the pump if it ever had problems. Either of these two places would have been really good as PM hiding places. I also like the idea of the hollow table or bed leg. That would be real good as well. The final good place that I would use would be to put the PMs into 2" PVC tubes about 16-18" long, cap them, and lay them between the rafters and under the blown-in insulation. Good security can be had by either strength or camouflage. The best security probably uses both.

You are so right Ed. What do we ever truly own? I just wish I could post a picture of where my hoard got moved to last week when I picked up that safe I bought. Unfortunately after seeking the advice of some friends I will probably not be posting pictures on the net. There really is not legitimate reason to bury your hoard. Buy a descent safe or just go to the bank and get a safety deposit box, they are very cheap.

Ed_B...I like your idea of the PVC tube under attic insulation but would the extreme heat and cold weather conditions harm the PM's?

I pretty much agree with most above. That being said, I MIGHT consider berrying on crown land if the situation dictated, big maybe. Say if you did not "own" your property, yet need guaranteed access in the future etc.
Keep it deep enough so metal detectorists can't find it. Let's just say you could berry false markers to make sure that YOU can locate them (markers) with a detector if needed. Hint:String. (No you don't tie a string to your treasure.)
If it seems I'm being cryptic, I am lol.
I berry mine under a Bluebury bush.

Quote: I like your idea of the PVC tube under attic insulation but would the extreme heat and cold weather conditions harm the PM's? That's a good question. I would think that it would be OK for bullion but maybe not for numismatic coins. Some attics get really hot in the summer time. I suppose that could harm a silver coin, especially if it wasn't packaged properly. Some plastics (CPVC & PVC?) might not be good for long term storage. Chlorine-free plastics should be OK, though. Cold should not be a problem, as any chemical reaction that might occur and damage the appearance of a coin slows rapidly with falling temps. Gold should be fine in either case as it is pretty inert. Quote: What do we ever truly own? My guess is that we can own anything that is not licensed, taxed, or regulated in some way. Yeah, that would make for a short list.
