I just went by a local McDonald's yesterday. There was a display for their Olympics sweepstakes, and one of the prizes was $25,000 in gold. I guess we're all going to eat a lot of Big Macs...

The last Big Mac I ate was maybe ten years ago and I barely got it down. Not sure I want to win 25K badly enough to eat another one.

It'll be taxable but at least there's a prize that I'd actually want.

Taco Bell gave away gold last year, too. I ate a lot of tacos, but didn't win that gold, either.

Tell my kids to go to McD instead of other fast food to increase chances.

lol: "Winners of a prize valued at $600 or more will receive a Federal Form 1099 in January 2013 for the value of a prize awarded in 2012."

"(i) Twenty Five Thousand Dollars ($25,000) in Gold. One (1) prize available. Winner will receive $25,000 in gold, exact weight and form of gold to be determined on the day Sponsor purchases the gold after winner is verified. A winner of this prize can elect to receive a check for $25,000 in lieu of $25,000 in gold. ARV: $25,000. Odds of winning are approximately 1 in 273,765,976. "

"(xv) Twenty Five Thousand Dollars ($25,000) in Gold. Five (5) prizes available. Each winner will receive $25,000 in gold, exact weight and form of gold to be determined on the day Sponsor purchases the gold after winner is verified. A winner of this prize can elect to receive a check for $25,000 in lieu of $25,000 in gold. ARV: $25,000."

You must also be of age of majority.

"B. Force Majeure/Printing and Production Errors: Sponsor reserves the right, without prior notice and at any time, to terminate the Game, in whole or in part, or modify, suspend or extend the Game in any way, or deem an affected Game Piece void and invalid if it determines, in its sole discretion, that the Game Piece in question reflects printing or other errors, or if it determines, in its sole discretion, that the Game is impaired or corrupted or that fraud or technical problems, failures, malfunctions, errors (including, without limitation, computer viruses or other deleterious programs or materials, glitches or printing or production errors) have destroyed or severely undermined the proper play, integrity, and/or feasibility of the Game. In the event Sponsor is prevented from continuing with the Game as contemplated herein by any event beyond its control, including but not limited to fire, flood, natural or man-made health epidemic, earthquake, explosion, labor dispute or strike, act of God or public enemy, satellite or equipment failure, riot or civil disturbance, terrorist threat or activity, war (declared or undeclared) or any federal, state, provincial or local government law, order, or regulation, public health crisis, order of any court or jurisdiction, or other cause not reasonably within Sponsor's control (each a "Force Majeure" event or occurrence), then subject to any governmental approval which may be required, Sponsor shall have the right to modify, suspend, extend or terminate the Game. Only the type and quantity of prizes described in these Official Rules will be awarded. The sole responsibility and liability for any irregular Online Code, Game Piece or Online Game Play is replacement with another randomly selected Code, or Game Piece while supplies last, or Online Game Play, as solely determined by Sponsor. Replacement shall be the sole and exclusive remedy under such circumstances. If, due to printing, digital, computer programming, hardware or software, or production errors or for any reason, more potential winners in any prize category come forward seeking to claim prizes in excess of the number of each type of prize as set forth in these Official Rules, the winners, or remaining winners, as the case may be, of the advertised number of prizes available in the prize category in question may be selected in a random drawing from among all persons making purportedly valid claims for such prize(s) in that prize category. Inclusion in such drawing shall be each Participant's sole and exclusive remedy under such circumstances. "
LOL act of god

So would you take the check for $25,000 or the gold? I want to know if the eventual winner will be taking the check or not.

For a contest like this, I'd take the check. Taking the gold could have a load of hidden fees and unknown commissions, shipping and insurance costs, not to mention taxes. I can just imagine the promotional team arranging for a "Brinks" delivery to your home...at your expense...all for a photo op. That'd be about the last thing a bullion stacker would ever want.

With the cash, the only costs are first class postage and taxes. I could then turn around and send a check for $12,500.00 to Goldmart or Provident for around 7 Canadian Gold Maples or Krugerrands.

One would think that with the grease content of one of those, it would slide down rather easily. My question is, would it STAY down?

Gold as a prize? Hmmm, yeah, I'm liking that... a lot. Yes, there would be some logistical problems with a check vs. gold but... I think that I can brave it.
