As far as I know, there are no rules on ebay to do with 'word spamming.' Thats a pretty old coin for that type of error, so it might be worth that much, but I would never pay that. Then again, I have never seen that type of error from that era...

"No (reverse) die in the press"--the proverbial 'one hand clapping'? I see denticles on both sides--so ir'a probably not a die cap/brockage--but machined? It's a lot of money to throw at something without clear pics or weight.

Why would anyone try and sell this type of error without listing the coins exact weight? There is no way I'd bid on it, I smell a rat !

OK thanks for the replies,i think the blank side has denticle pattern too & I agree there is no way I would bid unless a lot more info was in the listing, especially at that price.

Doubt that there's time for an answer, but I've asked the seller to provide the weight. Time left:18h 2m 16s

Got a reply from the seller: Quote: Hello its 5.3 grams. I never even thought to weight it, so thanks. it looks legitimate. but, I cant explain the weight difference. (A normal coin should weigh 9.4g, with a diameter of 31mm) It appears that the seller is a member here judging by his reply to my query in the listing: Quote: Hi Matrix and All. I had a message from a wonderful lady at coin community today (Hi Nancy) about the weight and its down on normal. It may have been doctored in the past? I . thin planchet? a pattern pressing or test? I honestly dont know. and I cant see any evidence of it as it looks very genuine and I got it with several other error coins so just assume its real. But your more than welcome to remove your bid or if you win return it for a full refund if your not happy once you get it and examine it and return it. just being honest. I try and sell great coins on here and always will and collect lots of them so would never knowingly sell rubbish to anyone. I hope that helps Kindest Regards Phillip He also added this: Quote:Weight 5.3 grams. 31mm x 1.8mm The surface does not look machined, it looks genuine. The coin was purchased with a group of error coins and listed on ebay to be found. I don't have any interest in English coins other than the (window shop) Gold Sovereign. or I would not be listing it for 1 cent. Thank you to coin community for your assistance as always. Personally, I would not be interested, as I think the coin has been machined and it's value is less than face. If I had found the coin I would probably keep it as a curio, but it would not be a part of my 'collection' as such, because it's been altered. I would never offer it for sale for the same reason, as any eventual buyer would be quite right in wanting a refund. Again, just in my personal opinion, the seller should cancel the listing.

At least 1 Bidder has retracted and now the total is down to $27, a huge difference to where it was with 14 Bids for $209.49, now 9 bids for $27.

The seller did try to cancel the listing but because it was so close to ending and there were bids on it, ebay wouldn't allow it. At least he tried, which indicates to me that he is a decent sort of person. If I get any more updates, I'll post them here.

Silly people bidding on coins like that without all the information. Kudo's to the seller for trying to cancel it.
