I was at my LCS today and the owner was saying that he was going to be sending over $300 in rolled State Quarters to the bank for deposit. Since I am in the process of trying to put together another album together for the State Quarters (this time in what I hope to be good condition coins) I asked him what he had. He showed me a container filled with both bank and customer rolled rolls all in really good condition.

So I made a deal to buy the coins at face and am currently going through the CWR and they look very clean.

So I was wondering if there was any upside to wrapping this coins by state and by mintmark and keeping them for future trades?

I also previously gotten a number of these rolls (also at face) that are still in the wrappings as they were issued by the US Mint back in the day. I was also wondering if there is any upside to keeping these rolls again for future tradings?

Or should I take what I need and put the rest back into circulation?

I think that if it was me, I would take what you need for your set from the circulated quarters, and return the rest back into circulation. As for the UNC. rolls I would keep them and do some price checking on rolls of UNC. State Quarters. Some states have a nice premium for UNC. rolls.

they made far too many of these for any appreciation above the rate of inflation. I think that's why your dealer dumped them.

Although I am in general agreement I feel I hould make a small suggestion...

I collected 80% of the State Quarters when I was in the US... the trouble was that the last few years hadn't been released and I had a few gaps (and since I never collected US coins before I visited the US I was unaware of the different mint marks so just got one for each state)

Anyway I felt compelled to fill in my gaps from ebay and was surprised that I was charged such a premium for the ones I needed. So if you can be bothered there probably is a market there to post these abroad (mine arrived in a padded bag in a roll to order I think $12.50 for $2.50 face with a couple of bucks for 1st class international shipping)

I dont have all the national parks, territories and ATB Quarters either, it would be nice to have all those if I could find them priced reasonably (thats one for the future I guess)

Anyway... if you can be bothered you would be doing the world a favour and it may return a little more than face.

This is the second set of State Quarters that I am working on. The first set was strictly just the Denver and Philadelphia coins that I could come accross from circulating stock and was placed into a Whitman folding album that was nice and handy.

This second album that I am putting together is trying to find pleasing uncirculated coins from both of these mints plus representatives from the San Francisco mint in uncirculated and silver proofs. Only this time the coins will be domiciled in a Dansco Albums which are comprised of a set of three binders.

I am thinking very seriously of placing my excess coins back into the wild. Especially after I was able to get these at face value.

Just put the excess back in circulation. If you saved them for about 1,000 years, then and only then, would you make a profit on those. Maybe.

If it were me, I would keep the rolled uncirc's. And me personally when I find anything with a buffalo on it, I toss it in the cigar box, just because I like buffalos (buffalie?).
