Hi,

I got this group of three at a recent auction win. I paid the best part of £20 for them and I think that's about they are worth - but I haven't bought any British for ages and I liked the farthing.

Please excuse the over exposed photographs.

A nice group.
I would grade the 1844 at VF, the 1827 at VG, and the 1822 at GVF.

I think you got the lot cheaply.

Thanks . I think it's hard for The Royal Mint to top British coins of the 1800 - 1910 era for design.

I can see why you liked the farthing, its a very nice coin.

I would say that lot was £20 well spent...

I suggest you buy the book on standard British grading.Too many people over grade after looking at ebay.I suggest you look at sites of respected British dealers.
Pop along to predecimal.com forum. If you give the half farthing at VF and the farthing at GVF I am staggered. Both are GF at best.

UK grading is generally much stricter than that of the US.
Grading:
Half-farthing: GF
Third farthing: Poor to fair
Farthing: NVF

Half farthing is worth about £1, third farthing about £3, farthing about £10.

Not trying to be horrible. But the 3 coins I wouldn't buy for £1.Ebay will give you £10.
Buy the best you can afford.

"But the 3 coins I wouldn't buy for £1"

Then you'd be a fool as they are clearly worth much more than that.

I'd snap that up for £1 just for the 1822 farthing...and the other two are quite acceptable fillers.

I said you would get about £10 on ebay.Personally I wouldn't buy them under any circumstance. The £1 was meant to emphasise this.
Enough of the back patting.
Punters need to learn how to grade otherwise many hands will be burnt.
Learn by your mistakes.

No, the £1 was meant as insulting. Please go and troll somewhere else.
