What would be the value of this note? It's not in very good shape, but it's from a VERY short run of only 128000 if I'm looking it up correctly. Thanks

In that condition not very much over face. Book value is around $12 for chcu. Atlanta of course was the only circulated district for 2 dollar notes that series, both regular and star.

Quote: Book value is around $12 for chcu Nick, I am surprised that none of the low printage experts chimed in.... BTW, this is an excellent example of the low print run nonsense....my 2 cents

So even though it's the shortest run I could find there's not enough premium on the note over face to keep it? What's the point of even keeping any stars then if there's no difference in value between 128k and 3.2m runs?

Quote: What's the point of even keeping any stars then if there's no difference in value between 128k and 3.2m runs? People have been saying on these boards for a long time that star notes aren't really more valuable just because they are star notes. There just too darn common. And a run size doesn't imply rarity either. It is just how many notes the BEP decided to print at that one particular time. Having said that, yes people collect low run stars, but those people usually want low run, low serial, chcu notes. For those they will pay more than book because they are low serial numbers. In the end it is always the same, condition and rarity that drive up the price of a note. Those $2 stars had 1.2 million total printed for Atlanta, all the other 11 districts had 10k printed so all those are around $50 a note.

morgans dad: The entire run is 1.2mil. There is 3 separate runs out of the entire run. This note is from Run 1b. According to My Currency Collection, this is the rarest of all FRN $2 star runs. Reference the serials per run here: http://mycurrencycollection.com/ref.../2/printableI just fail to see how this note could not have a premium over the notes from run 1 or 2 out of the whole print.

Quote: I just fail to see how this note could not have a premium over the notes from run 1 or 2 out of the whole print. I know a way to find out, put it up for sale and lets see how much it goes for. http://www.ebay.com/sch/Federal-Res...ar+noteHere is an ebay link for completed auctions on 1995 stars, of course all three runs will appear in a search like this, but notice which ones are selling and which aren't. The well worn notes just aren't selling very well. Your note is a good note and I would certainly keep it, don't get me wrong, it just isn't going to attract much attention from low run note collectors in it's current condition.

I will add some words to Nicks statement above......advanced / serious Quote: it just isn't going to attract much attention from low run advanced / serious note collectors in it's current condition. My advice would be the same as Nick's....follow ebay auctions to see how condition / grade of a note determine the ending / final sale price. Even on an Au short run star note with minor handling like a slight fold or a ding will knock the price down by 50%.

Ok, that makes sense to me! :)
Don't get me wrong, I wasn't arguing that I have some really valuable note, it's just I have several different 95 deuce stars all in crap condition, and I figured that this one was rarer (even though not much premium) over the others I have. Just with all the comments I was getting the impression that you were saying that this note is of no difference than any other of the series. It's just I figured hey, this thing HAS to be worth at least a dollar or two above face!
Thanks for the help guys!

IMO it MAY be worth more than face value, but what is keeping it down is the condition of the note; folds and overall appearance of the note. Your note has at least two hard folds and some fading on the center fold. I would call this note a "filler" if one was putting together a set of notes.
