I bought an NGC AU50 1840-O No Drapery Seated Liberty quarter today for just $45.00.

Here's how I did it. Two weeks ago at a coin show in Modesto, CA I bought a Spanish medal, The Royal and Distinguished Order of Charles III, Commander class. When I spotted the medal I was sure it was gold and the dealer somehow failed to realize that fact. I bought the medal for $45.00. It tested out at 21K. Today at a coin show in Fremont I sold the medal and bought the Seated Liberty quarter.

A dealer I know who has a website had the quarter posted on it for $765.00. I emailed him and asked if he was going to walk the show and he replied he was. I asked him to bring the quarter as I was interested in buying it. He brought the quarter to the show and being a regular customer he dropped the price $65.00. The quarter is now in my AU Seated Liberty type set.

I know, I know, so without further ado here they are.

What the pictures of the quarter fail to show is the mint luster shining through the patina. It's a real beauty in hand.

that is an excellent strategy, make the hobby pay for itself, it can be done, but it takes some effort.

I love that quarter! It has that crusty look that I really dig.
