Has anyone done this? It sounds a really good way to acquire world coins in bulk.

You will find after a while that some foreign coins will predomimate. These are the ones that are left over pocket change from overseas trips by tourists.

The machines may only take a certain type of "foreign" coin so as sel691 says you probably won't get too much variety. Try a local coin store/show bourse for a world coin pickout box. You can also try ebay or Coin World paper for ads selling bulk world coins.

Most coin shops would be glad to sell you the foreign they toss in a bucket. Usually sold by the pound and you'll get a real good mix.
