Hi guys.I bought this coin today and I'm trying to determine variety and grade.Pictures are not the best.Coin with traces of red, good clear details and much sharper then pics. The only problem with it is hole.Got to be very old hole because about 30% is filled with patina.I found this website and I think mine is 8th from the top and is in about same condition.

Description is not the best so I'm hoping that somebody can tell me more.Shortly-I would like grade, variety details and value. Thanks in advance.

Wow, nice condition. It was probably jewelry longer than it was a coin.

I agree, nice condition - I'd say GVF for the reverse, though the reverse looks better than the obverse, and I'm not sure whether the reverse is VF or almost GVF.

I wonder how much difference the hole makes to its value.

Some of the coins on the linked page are grossly overgraded.

The RedBook prices seem on the low side to me, and the price differential between VF and EF seems wrong.

If the price in VF is S125, I would expect an EF (I've never seen one for years outside a museum or major collection) to be nearer $600.

That's not what the D over you variety looks like.

See http://www.mcsearch.info/ext_image.html?id=521465 for a great example.

Sorry, I don't know what your variety on the 1823 is; I think it's probably a die flaw.
