I picked this one up from a seller who never saw or mentioned the spiked chin. Thought I got an OK deal on it, but it meets my criteria for inclusion in my 7070.

It may have been cleaned at some point, but has enough detail remaining to at least be recognizable. Add to that the fact that it's never been in the dirt, and I was "sold".

Just one more copper needed ... the classic head Large Cent. Someday ... I'll stumble across the right deal on one of those, but no luck so far.

Some odd Strike Doubling near the mouth ... Your thoughts appreciated.

I like it, seems to have good detail.
I agree it would look good in a 7070 ... it has more
detail than mine .. I think my 7070 sure does need some upgrades.

I am not very good at varieties, but with the spike chin
and to me the "4" looks high. I think the experts should
be able to come up with some good opinions.

The 4 is up where it should be, as are those parallel lines in the right field, near the rim, which are also part of the die state, and not PMD. I was thinking the 2 in the fraction looked too high, but on second thought, maybe the base of the digit is just poorly struck.

Looks like a Cohen-8 die state 3.0. Nice acquisition.

That tongue sticking out (if that's what you were referring to) is typical of the 1804 spiked chin:

Yeah, that's what I was talking about. It does resemble a tongue sticking out.

I really appreciate the feedback. I could only find images the C-6, and I knew it wasn't that reverse.

I looked at an awful lot of draped bust Half Cents that just didn't quite measure up to what I was looking for, and I didn't want a "filler". I'd rather leave an empty hole until I find the coin I want. I don't think it was a steal at 130 dollars, but I feel like it was fairly priced, given the state of the economy.

5 more holes to fill. I have a few memorable coins in the set, including an 1880 Shield nickel, a 1920-D full head standing liberty, a super 1843 seated half. Some day I'll post some pics of the "redeemers". That's what I call the specimens that take up the slack for a few marginal ones. Those that are "marginal" ... were cheap or they wouldn't be occupying the hole in the album. My 1859 Indian is cleaned ... and that one bugs me.

Then there's my 1866 Shield nickel. It's got some damage by the date and is otherwise in EF. I repatriated it from a dealer in Italy, and even including postage from Europe, I have less than 10 dollars in it. There are only a few slackers like that in the album. There's a handful that are pretty exceptional though....at least I think so.

Yet another hole in my 7070 that remains "unfilled". Nice variety coin!
