Reverse Seems Week

I purchased this 1810 Capped Bust half dollar I know that this coin has a fairly common die break error it's either an o-101, o-103 or possiblly an o-107 it will have to go to PCGS for final say on that.

But here is my question. It appears that this coin was struck twice, Not a double die but literally struck with two different dies. Have you heard of this before and if it is a double strike what do you think it's worth. The R-T-Y have what appears to be an impression within, especially the T and Y. You can actually see a shorter Y inside the Y. Also the Mouth Appears Open as if the Second Strike Did not line up correctly and mashed the lips flat to the backface Any Thoughts Would Be appreciated Thanks

Welcome to CCF, CoinQ. That is one nice Half.

It's O-101, a middle die state before reaching "O-101a" status. Not uncommon, but a fascinating variety considering just how hard they pushed the die before retiring it. What you see in LIBERTY is on all the examples I've seen of O-101; I'm guessing it was recutting on the die itself.

R.1, but hardly "common" on the ground - Heritage Auctions only offers a couple a year in AU, and has only ever sold a single attributed example in Mint State. By all means, send it to PCGS - it's at least a $500-600 coin and much more if they go AU55 or higher. They may take exception to the color - PCGS is being paranoid that way - but I see no reason to believe it's not original.

CoinQ, go register at Heritage Auctions (ha.com). It's free. They've an astounding archive of high-resolution images from prior sales, including over twenty of these O-101's in AU. I will only caution you about the danger to your wallet, once you see some of the delicious stuff they have for sale.

That reverse is rough, and makes me consider rounding my grade estimate downwards. Some of it is strike deficiency - O-101 strike qualities tend to wander - but I have to think PCGS will see it as EF.
