Folks, I can't find any info on this silver "round." I'm not sure whether it's just a generic silver round, or whether it's got some collector value. What is particularly curious to me is that the paper flip on one of these has a $175 price. Hmmm. Any thoughts?

I'm guessing it's both, lobby. I used to be something of a collector of limited release generic silver 1 oz. rounds like yours and I can't say I've come across this one. It commemorates a successful Israeli commando raid that resulted in the rescue of several hostages. It took place in Uganda. I don't remember the details. Perhaps it was a airplane hijacking that precipitated the rescue but the details are fuzzy. I studied it in one of my college courses but that was more than 20 years ago. Good pick up!

Sorry, I can't see the price either. To be register, you have to pay, and my parents would kill me if I spent $100/year on a website. But I hope the link helped you a bit.

T... a number of Islamic terrorists took control of the Entebbe airport in which there were some dozens of Israeli citizens. The Israelis launched a classic commando raid on that airport, freeing all of the hostages unharmed and killing all of the terrorists. Only the leader of the raid was killed. He was the brother of the current Prime Minister of Israel.

Taking over planes in mid-flight and demanding that the pilots land in some backwater heck were all the rage in the 70's and 80's.

There was a great cartoon in Playboy magazine back then that showed the cockpit of a commercial airliner. Between and slightly behind the pilots was an open trap door with a gun and a pair of sunglasses laying on the floor. The pilot had his hand on a control lever and a wicked grin on his face. No words were necessary.
