Hello
I am new here and have a rather odd coin. It's a 1819 US one cent Coronet coin. It only has 13 stars and I believe it was suppose to have 15. It also has a rather strange thing I have never seen on any other one before.A large "N" is stamped on the left side of the head. Me and my 11 year old found this coin believe it or not while testing out a metal detector in our back yard near the garden. Strange but true. If anyone can answer this one please get back to me. Thank You. Philip

Oh and the coin is in I would say fare shape.

1819 Large Cents all had 13 stars. It was only during 1817 that some had 15 stars.

To CCF!

The 1819 has only 13 stars. 1817 has a variety with 15 stars. The N sounds like a counterstamp done post mint, fairly common.
