Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner, that I submit this example from the London mint (established by Carausius)... Constantine I Coin: AE3
Obverse: CONSTANT-INVS AVG, laureate bust right wearing trabea and holding an eagle tipped sceptre with his right hand. Reverse: BEAT TRAN✩✩✩QLITAS, VOT - IS - XX in three lines inscribed on an altar with the globe upon it.
Weight: 2.75 grams Maximum dimensions: 19 x 18.5 x 1.1 mm Die axis: 180 degrees Mintmark: PLON (London), struck between 321 - 322 AD. Reference: RIC VII 224 Note: A metal detecting find from Berkshire. Rated rare

Quote: Iove the smackdowns always fine coins who ever came up with the original idea cudos. I can't help wondering how many are not posting certain of their coins now holding them in reserve to post when the Smackdown finally gets around to that subject. How long can it be until we get the subject "Coins that cost under $10 within the last month"? I'm not showing one of those but its time is almost up so I'll have to wait for the 'last few months' category. How about "Coins only a mother could love that I paid too much for"? I have quite a few of those! I think I'd like the concept better without the voting. That way we might see coins that are interesting but not 'winners' in the traditional sense.

Wow dougsmit ... man, I never thought that I'd ever say this to you, but "I disagree with you" ... I kinda think that the voting makes the whole thing a bit more interesting ... I think that people (me) like to have a bit of competition and like to see who has the really cool coins ...
NOTE => but I also feel that anybody who is actually able to enter a coin into any or all of these SMACKDOWN competitions should feel pretty good that they even own a coin that's 1500-2500 years old and fits into a specific category!! (there seems to be a fairly small percentage of the population that can even enter our competitions, right?) ...
Yup, I think my dear ol' Grandmother said it best when she said:
"stevex6, pass me the moonshine, ya good fer nuthin varmint!!"
oh, wait a minute ... sorry, that was her other saying ... what I meant to write was:
"stevex6, it's not whether you win or lose => it's how you play the game ... plus, you certainly don't stand a chance in heck of winnin' if ya don't enter your darn coin, ya good for nuthin' varmint!!"
... awwwww, memories ... *sniffle, sniffle*

Who is to say we can't make a post depicting a coin, then discuss it and then follow up by posting a coin you have that somehow relates to the last post? You could make a thread coins under $10 and then we can post them and see what comes up, no need to vote. Its not a smack down.

eeechh .. well, then there wouldn't be any bloodshed ... and there wouldn't be any little crying girls and what about the whole controversial media thingy! ... and what about all of the little Whos down in Who-ville! Ummm yah, that's not a SMACKDOWN => that's merely called "a thread" ... we already have those!! but *whateva* ... apparently my brain-child is running out of steam!! => Run little brain-child, Run!

Well - not long left now people, just a few hours before voting starts. My entries, sorry I was slow, lost all my pics when my laptop melted last month so having to re-photograph everything now. Both coins show Sol on the reverse, the second has a less common 'T in Wreath' fieldmark. TJs coin is very similar but without the 'T' Minted in Trier. Minted in Rome.
