Hasmonean-Prutah---Alexander-Jannaeus

Alexander Jannaeus, Hasmonean AE Prutah. Three lines of Hebrew text inside wreath. / Two cornucopias, pomegranate between them. Hendin 1145.

AE Prutah, 15.59mm, 2.6g

This is the last coin I received from this lot of four coins.

A humble coin but one of great interest to those who also have an interest in Bible land history.

Usually poorly struck, and in poor condition. That is fine by me! At least it has seen extensive circulation and would definitely have a tale or two to tell, if it could speak!

The area of it's circulation was just as much a political stirring pot then as it is now.

Gil-Galad, as is my standard reply, but you should get cleaning on that. Not all the way to the patina, or you could obfuscate the lettering, but certainly use a toothbrush to expose the top of the letters and allow the sand to highlight them.

Its a great coin as it is though, a very interesting design!

The reason why I haven't cleaned it is because the design and script is very low relief. If the sand is removed, the details will be hard to see. And I like the natural look of the coin right now as well.

You're coin, and I'm sure you know better than I do on these things!

So how much did this one set you back?

That's a nice coin as well. Pontius Pilate coins are too expensive for me right now.

I also divided the cost of the shipping between all the coins and added the result. $7.50 USD or 4.82 GBP which is a decent deal for this coin.
