I'm looking at finishing off my florin collection by getting the rarest first, 1932. I have never purchased a coin this expensive. I plan to budget somewhere between $400-600.

where am I better off purchasing this sort of thing, ebay ( from trusted coin dealers), online auction, coin show?

Could I do better than this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/30074709254....m1438.l2649 ? there was one from the same dealer, similar condition, but no dent on obverse next to the 'V' on the left. Think it sold for $580

have seen some on e-bay with only the reverse pictured which is a bit naughty because I've read the 1932 is slightly concave & the the reverse is always less worn than obverse.

Are you close to a dealer? If so I would try there first, then wait for a coin show and as a last resort ebay. Buying a coin like this is much more enjoyable if you can look at a few in hand before making your choice. Personally I dont really follow florin prices so cant comment on the ebay example you posted.

Ideally you should have a good relationship with a trusted dealer if looking for something like this.
Auction is worth a go but you need to set a definite limit; easy to get carried away.

Keep an eye on http://www.numismatics.com.au/Shop/...nage__Florin. Never know when he might turn one up. Walter is an active member of this forum too...http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...splay&id=874.

I note the one on ebay has a "make offer' option. Why not decide what you think that one would be worth to you and make an offer. Seller does look to be reliable.

cheers,
Jeff
with enworb's comment about looking at it before you buy it. If following up on ebay item why not ask seller for some more (and detailed) photos. Response up to such a request will give you an idea of how trustworthy the seller may be.

enworb. In Melbourne. I've been to Downies recently they had very few florins available. also went to Peter Strich a few doors down, but he was at a coin show. So it wasn't a successful trip.

I will have to get used to the idea of purchasing from photos though as I intend to collect world coins.

If you're in Melbourne you're spoilt for choice really. There's plenty of dealers and coin shows. Take your time buying this coin and have fun doing it.

You should be able to pick up a Fine example for $300 or less on ebay but you'll have to bid for one as all of the buy now coins are way overpriced
