Earlier this year, while working in her garden in our yard, my wife dug up a 1905-O Barber quarter.

I'm an avid metal detectorist and was standing next to her when she said, "I've found something."

I couldn't believe my eyes when she handed it to me.

I was once handed a nearly uncirculated Monegasque 2 Euro in my change at a McDonalds drive thru.

I've found a few interesting coins in Coinstar reject trays before but one time, I found a Mercury dime sitting on the shelf of the machine. A long time ago, when cleaning the change out of one of my mother's old purses, I found a Netherlands East Indies coin which I still have today.

This is my second oldest coin and oldest problem-free coin (my oldest is a 1912 LWC with lots of verdigris).

Strangest-Place-You-Found-Awesome-Coin? Strangest-Place-You-Found-Awesome-Coin?

It was found in an old wallet, full of play money, in Jakarta. Most likely it's there since my dad went to the States in 2004 and untouched since then.

I was in Russia over the summer doing research and learned that the state bank issues gold and silver coins. Not really a strange place, but I went to buy some and had to sit while they examined my foreign debit card for 2 hours. Came out with a bag full of silver and had to ride a metro and walk a while to get back to my hostel.

not exactly strange, but the most uncomfortable travel with valuable coin ever.

I guess my strangest find would be after my grandfather passed away I was willed his coin collection. Low and behold a 1909 S vdb Penny that he never told me he had.

This drunk marine was thirsty for a cold one and had a bucket of like, 50 wheaties and he came up to my dad and asked he could trade the pennies for money he could use at the bar. Well he gave them to me and while looking through them I found a 1955 BIE penny in very nice condition.

I had a weird experience back in 1976 in France. I was walking along a back street in Lyon, and found an 1853A bronze Napoleon III 5-centime piece lying on the sidewalk. Perhaps another collector bought it at a coin shop and accidentally dropped it - I can't think of any other way it could have got there! The coin is still in my collection.

I have had several finds that amazed me.
Best ever was garage sale with old rusty coffee can with several, 15-20, 19th century coins embeded in black goo in a big clump for $20. I used oven cleaner(a no,no, but never hurt the coins, but alot better than they were)and came up with large cents,1/2 cent, key 1879 or 80 shield Nickle, ihc`s, 3 cent pieces, plus other silver Seated coins. Sold shield to LCS for $350 area in xf+.

That shield is still in someones collection. If they knew its history

Two that stand out for me, apart from pretty cool finds while roll hunting, would be picking up a 1958 10c on the sidewalk, and the big one would be finding a silver 1920 5c underneath the coinstar at my bank! I always run my hand underneath, often there's change that must have rolled under.
