Something tells me it is a counter stamped Spanish or Portuguese coin. I'll flip through my 18th century catalog while I watch baseball. I'll see if I can find it or the host coin.

I think it is a Spanish 8 Maravedis counterstamp on a host coin I just cannot seem to identify.

Hope that helps a little.

Host coin is Philip III, probably a 4 Maravedis.

Counterstamped 12 Maravedis 1636-1643.
Counterstamped 8 Maravedis 1651-1654.
Counterstamped 4 Maravedis 1659.

That makes a lot of sense. I was not even thinking about multiple counterstamps!

Hello, I see that you were able to help identify a copper coin for 3elms and I have a very similar coin I was hoping you could identify. Any details you could give would be much appreciated.

Thank you for your help in advance.

I can't see a date, but XII maravedis counterstamp was used 1636, 1641-42.
4 Maravedis counterstamp from 1659.
