The first use of this obverse die, which would go on to be paired with six more reverse dies in succession. New pics still have the odd incongruity of wear, with what appears to be extra wear around the rim of the reverse. Agree with VG-8 for obverse, though. Report this Post to the Staff

philadelphian Pillar of the Community United States 3253 Posts	Posted 08/09/2012 08:26 am Well, honestly, I have a B-29/BB-119, which is the last use of this obverse die, and I recognize the configuration of the date, though by that time, the date was surrounded by long die breaks. From there, it's a matter of identifying which of the seven possible reverse dies this is. They divide bust dollar heraldic reverse dies into two groups based on whether the stars are arranged in smooth arcs over the eagle's head, or in straight lines (making a kind of "X"). This one is "arc;" mine is "line." Then, positions of olive leaves or arrows will narrow it to one die marriage. There's a fun "Bust Dollar Attribution Wizard" website that will walk you though an identification. Report this Post to the Staff
