You would have been better off with the Grellman attribution guide for late dates, 1840-1857.

Impressive I haven't heard anything about these books (but I haven't read this weeks Region 8 newsletter yet) but they look good. Plates look better than in his previous 16 - 39 book. it would be interesting to see how good it is on the late dates. looks like I have a couple more books to add to my wish list.

For middle dates, it's typically just plates of the obverse and reverse and then die state plates for some. For late dates, there's lots of little zoomed in images for the subtle attributes. Both books are the same size, but as the first covers three decades, and the second one, you can see where the extra detail is.
