What do you want them for? If you want them to search for key dates etc then buying from a shop probably isn't the best idea as they would have been sorted well. Maybe put an add in the local paper that you are looking to buy. Otherwise ebay but most lots would be well sorted there as well.

There is more chance finding a real 1930 penny on ebay than an unsearched hoard of bulk pennies on ebay. Best bet is to put an add in a local paper, have a look at the coins being offered to you and don't pay too much for them, you have to realise that a brown 1963 EF penny or similar is basically worthless and that's what the majority of bulk hoards of pennies have in them.

Pretty much every coin dealer in the country would have a "bulk box" of "average circulated" pennies to sell you. Check your phone book and see if there are any dealers nearby, then phone them up and ask how much they have.

As for coin dealers in eastern suburban Melbourne, all I know is, when I visited Melbourne in 2009, the coin dealer the book said was in Greensborough had closed and moved elsewhere.
