OK, nobody liked my last book so I'll try again but this one has an option. Dumbarton Oaks is a great museum in Washington DC concentrating on the Byzantine period. I wish I had their 5 volume catalog of coins (six if you count the late Roman volume before Anastasius) but each volume is priced separately and averages $150. They also have a 70 page or so primer on Byzantine coinage that has a lot of worthwhile information but no catalog. See: http://www.doaks.org/resources/publ...tine-coinageOn the above page you can click on the option to buy the book for $15 or click on the other option to download the PDF file of the book for free. Then you have the option of reading it on your computer or printing it out. Life is full of choices, isn't it?

...and me.
Mentioned this before but we (Ancient forum) could do with a 'sticky' listing links to attribution sites and free resources like this pdf. My hard-drive melted last month and I lost a huge amount of stuff collected over the last few years.
Anyone know if this would be possible and how we would go about getting it done?

I downloaded this, certainly a useful reference of information, my only critisism is that the images are rather pixelated on the PDF.
Thanks for the link...
I would like to see links to similar such documents concerning early Roman and Greek coinage.

Since this thread was originally posted, Dumbarton Oaks has made their full 5-volume (9 parts) Catalogue of Byzantine Coins and their Catalogue of Late Roman Coins available for free download. Yes, that's right. Free. https://www.doaks.org/research/publ...=NumismaticsIf you're old-fashioned and prefer physical books, those are also available via same link for under $1000 (but lacking Byzantine volume I which is out of print). As for me, free is good.

When I saw this thread this morning I said to myself here's a blast from the past. I at first thought that Doug was posting here again. Than I saw it wasn't him.
Anyway KS thanks for the updated information, for those of us that collect Byzantine coinage these are excellent books to have.
