Hey everybody, Just a thought here if people around the world can make fake money, coins and anything else that can be faked , How can you trust an ICCS , MS65 compared to a MS64 with no database?
I have called ICCS 4 times , just rings and rings So can you really trust a piece of paper that could be counter fitted?
I Think it would be a very easy task to make a fake graded coin if they can fake money?

I buy the coin, not the holder.

People tend to put too much faith in a TPG. Learn to grade, learn how to spot fakes, and have fun with the hobby.

ICCS is the best we Canadians have although there are faults with their system. I'd still trust the accuracy of ICCS in grading Canadian coins over the US TPG's (except with the 'RED' designation for copper coins). Regarding their non-answering phones, you probably called after 2pm. Their hours are from 8am to 2pm weekdays and they are always there and always answers the phone.

i have full trust in their grading skills, you can call them with a coins serial certificate # to confirm the item my beef is with their cheap flips charge more and place the coins in a hard holder.

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that with a database (or off ebay etc) the counterfeiters would just take the serial numbers for legitimate coins and add them to their fakes so even if you checked them it didn't do you any good. So what IndianGoldEagle said is still your best defence.

ICCS holders have been counterfeited HUNDREDS of times. A dealer was also expelled from CAND for switching coins in ICCS holders. That company now is also an auction house for numismatics. Go figure. stripes changed..............nope........... A member of this site once stated that a member of his club in ALTA would cut out ICCS coins, you resubmit them for a better grade, if came back lower, he would reseal them in original holder. Go figure? ICCS has slipped. Grading in old holder (with water mark) are well graded and consistent. Not now-a-days tho. IMO

ICCS coins should be treated as "raw" ( always buy the coin and not the holder )
BTW - I was one of those that CAND took care of when the switching was going on .

Just a little more info for those that are curious , don't wish to go into all the details but basically I had a couple of coins from the "switcher" and I was never comfortable with the grade of one of them . When the story broke , I contacted CAND and sent a couple of coins to them for a look . They determined one of them was indeed not proper and I was then reimbursed the purchase price of one of the coins . Mind you , the difference in grade was slight on a tough series and the monetary value wasn't huge . You can see why it might occur though as every bump up in grade is more in the pocket of the dealer .

I have a small but quite amusing set of TPG "slips". Most are unexplainable. As a result, I don't trust ANY TPG but I recognize that in some markets, and for some coins, if the coin is not on a holder it does not fetch the fair price. Learn to grade!
